Smoothies -- They are a great addition to your day, whether for a breakfast on the go or a nutritious snack after a great workout.

Smoothies are easy and quick to make once you have the right ingredients in the fridge or freezer. Fresh fruit and vegetables are an important staple of a healthy diet and every excuse to eat a great variety of them in any combination is always a wonderful idea! Of course, you don’t need a bunch of fancy recipes to do just that! You can eat them fresh, raw, plain and simple! So by all means please do, but another wonderful way to incorporate them into your day is in a refreshing delicious smoothie.

Let’s get started–here are my own Cuisinicity smoothie creations!

Banana Date Almond Shake: (vegan): YUMMY in your tummy! It’s naturally sweet and creamy and is just so satisfying!

Pineapple Coconut Smoothie The makings of a virgin piña colada for a healthy breakfast or mid afternoon snack. How delicious is that?!

Spinach Pear Smoothie: (vegan): So refreshing and satisfying, just slightly sweet and surprisingly, not overly “spinachy” (!) I love it–It’s just perfect after my favorite Zumba workout!

Berry Nutty Fig Smoothie (vegan): Delightful fresh-fig-and-berries-meet-nuts concoction! The result is an outburst of dietary fiber, minerals, vitamins, and anti-oxidants! Not too sweet, creamy and just delicious!

Then there are my power milkshakes: Power Chocolate Banana Milk Shake (with vegan option), Power Strawberry Banana Milk Shake (with vegan option), that hide lentils for protein–you’d never know they are there– In one fell swoop, I have fruit, whole grains, legumes, dairy and nuts all in one shake. It’s absolutely power nutrition!

More Salads...Refreshing all-in-one-meal salads! Let me share my latest creations and also bring back old favorites.

Coleslaw with Apple Vinaigrette

A simple nutrient-filled salad that brings the flavor of fresh crisp cabbage and tart green apple together brilliantly. The chopped walnuts give it the perfect final touch! It’s so satisfying!

Beet Couscous Salad with Fresh Mint

This is a wonderful root-to-leaf recipe, so it makes full use of this wonderful root vegetable, both nutritionally and culinarily! The greens are sautéed and the roots are cooked separately; The couscous is raw and just absorbs all the wonderful flavors of the fresh orange and lemon vinaigrette so that it is perfectly fluffy and not clumpy–no cooking necessary. I finish it off with fresh mint. The result is absolutely delightful and so beautiful too!

Find any and all ways to incorporate as many fresh produce as you can, when you can.

Homemade Breads...Time to have the house filled with those heartwarming smells of breads and muffins baking in the oven.

Of course, I make these wonderful treats mindfully, Cuisinicity style, so you’ll find that I have cut down the sugar and eliminated the salt. I use wholegrain flour instead of refined flours, replace the saturated fat from butter with healthy oils and use lots of fruit and/or veggies to give them that true flavor of wholesome deliciousness!

Welcome Home Banana Bread

It is the quintessential banana bread filled with the natural sweetness of ripe bananas so it is relatively low in added sugar. I also use whole wheat pastry flour for the added fiber and canola oil as my source of healthy fat. I feel doubly good knowing I get to nourish my sweeties while “spoiling” them!

Soft Wheat Zucchini Bread

Such a yummy moist bread filled with zucchini! I cut so much sugar from the typical recipe and it’s still plenty sweet! I also use whole wheat pastry flour for the added fiber and of course canola oil as my source of healthy fat. I absolutely love this recipe! The only problem is that my kids devour it before I even have a chance to freeze the second loaf!

Carrot Bread with Honey Yogurt Dip

When you think of the prototypical carrot cake you think moist, sweet layers separated by a rich sweet cream cheese frosting, right? Indeed, it may be quite delicious but really, nutritionally it’s almost a disaster! When you consider that its star ingredient is so naturally sweet to begin with, who needs all that extra sugar?! So, I decided to create one of my own and, to be fair, I decided to call it a bread, rather than a cake, not because it’s not plenty sweet–it is!— and certainly not because it isn’t moist–WOW it is!–but because I decided to make the frosting optional by making it into a dip, and…. a healthy-just- sweet-enough-with-a-touch-of-honey-and-a-sprinkle-of-cinnamon– kind of dip at that….OH MY!!! You have got to try it! I think the photo is enticing enough for you to take my word for it and try it for yourself! YUM!!!

The nice thing about muffins and breads is that they keep beautifully in the freezer so I love to make several batches and store them for a later day. Just take out however many muffins, and no more than you need, for a special treat or dessert whenever the occasion arises; that way, you keep yourself in check and don’t overly indulge!
